Who Do We Think Had the Best Show at E3?

E3 came, it showed out, and it’s actually currently still going on!

However, the major events have finished up, that being Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, and Bethesda.

Now every year various communities aim to declare a “winner” of E3, typically filtered down to who won between Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. It was fine back in the day when exclusives were more prevalent, but now in a day where most games are cross platform it matters not (in my opinion at least).

Regardless, I do have opinions on who had the best show,  keep in mind best ‘show’ – as in the show was great. When these games comes out, it could be completely different from the, to quote Pro-Jared, sizzle reel as well as any games that may get canceled or implodes or gets pushed back *Scalebound, Andromeda, Kingdom Hearts*.

Electronic Arts [EA]:

Overall I think Star Wars was their biggest hitter, followed by their Madden and FIFA. Both of these aren’t my flavor of soda nor cup of tea, but with a large audience who’re into competitive gaming and sports gaming – these will likely flourish, especially with EA listening to critiques from the previous Battle Front game.

Their biggest gamble (in terms of quality, but should still sell well) will be their Call of Duty game centered back in the World War era. Now, this too, is not my kind of plate at a barbecue, but I did enjoy previous CoD games as mindless shmups (not the literal genre, but as a game where you point your mouse and go pew pew) and honestly I enjoyed  the modern era and even venturing out into space with awesome tech and gear! I don’t personally get the complaints about their direction, but then again, I’m not the typical CoD gamer.

We’ll have to wait and see how player pick up the new CoD WWII and whether or not it impresses that core audience.

Microsoft:

XBOX(X Box One X)
or XOX (Xbox One X)

With a not so fantastic run against their main competition over at Sony, Microsoft had a lot of ground to cover. And they did not disappoint (overall, anyways). Not only was the XBOX – X Box One X… or is it XOX… or XboneX… why couldn’t they just stick with Scorpio?

Eh… Not only was the project Scorpio finally unveiled and shown off, it actually looks pretty neat.

Now I have my complaints about the entirety of how the gaming market does this — rehashing same consoles with upgrades after releasing a middle-man, a`la PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro and the XBox One S and now XBox One X — but generally it’s going to be a good product for console users, along with the bringing in of classic Xbox (like the original black XBox that has the best Prince of Persia on it) games for backwards compatibility is a big thumbs up. Even if the small numbers of players for older games is small, the fact of having the option to play them is always a bonus!

Microsoft also, in my Opinion, showcased the most diversity among their games. I think Anthem alone is going currently my top “will buy” game. Afterwards was the showing off of Assassin’s Creed Origin which has me curious, really really curious, loved what I saw, but I need to see more. I’ll never trust Ubisoft again.

State of Decay 2 looks like a great sequel to the first, I’m curious what they’ll price it as however. And Metro Exodus really really caught me off guard! A breathable surface now! As well as the Last Night, Tacoma, bringing in MMOs like Black Desert, a DBZ version of street fighter level competitive gaming (not my thing but I’m sure E-Sports crowds will eat it up), and just SOMETHING for EVERYONE. Ashen for Souls players, a slew of indie games ranging from small uplifting cutesy games, to space travel survival. Ori, Sea of Thieves, Crack Down, Shadows of War… Just tons of content.

Bethesda:

I love Bethesda. I really do. That’s both Software and Game Studio. But aside from Evil Within and Wolfenstein, I’m not much excited. Dishonored looks good, but I have to see more, but I trust the game will be solid because Bethesda.

I also commend them for trying to give VR gaming some extra life with VR versions of their popular titles, but… we’ll have to see if they’re really good, or just more niche gimmicks in the gaming world.

However… I’m really really REALLY iffy about the Creation Club. I think it has potential… but it can be horridly abused. I think I’ll probably make a separate video on our [Main Channel] about it sometime next week… but yeah… we’ll see…

Devolver Digital:

Big congrats to simply where DD stands today. They’re mainly known for Hotline Miama, but they go back to the days of Shadow Warrior.

Now their show had, in my opinion, the most entertaining intro (with the gun fire and mo-cap suit guy), but even their showcase was really well done. Runner looks amazing and unique – though this style and direction may become a “thing” for this and next year.

Regardless, their show was entertaining, but lacking as much umph as others (though, ironically, I’ll probably be buying more of DD’s games than others…) especially with commitment to communities like the mod community for full mod editing creation.

Ubisoft:

Fool me once, shame on me, make me cry for what happened with Watch Dogs and what you do to my loved series like Assassin’s Creed… shame on you.

I’m looking forward to see what Ubisoft has in store — mainly Skull and Bones, Far Cry 5, and of course Beyond Good and Evil.

There’s not much more I have to say though. I wanted to see if Skull and Bones has anything more than boat play, and we’ll have to see how FC5 and BGaE actually looks and plays like nearing release.

Sony:

Not too excited via Sony. I felt underwhelmed for the most part. See, I’m looking forward to a lot of the games showed (mainly Days Gone, Spiderman, and Monster Hunter) but a lot of those games we have all known about. The only exception is Monster Hunter which had me foaming at the mouth with titillating excitement! But everything else was kinda of rehashed, showed more, and nothing else really surprising or really noteworthy.

Not to dog Sony, I mean, they’re currently at the top. You can do this at the top. You don’t have to risk much when you’re already being praised. Just don’t get caught sleeping…

Nintendo:

Also a bit meh (to me). Which I expected since we got a lot of Nintendo news at their own personal Direct event thing. Essentially I’m happy to see that they ARE in fact (confirmed by them) working on a “core” Pokemon Switch game (I’m still banking STARs), also Metroid Prime 4 – but… I hope it’s actually good.

More domestic abuse in the Nintendo World…

I’ve not moved in favor nor against Mario Odyssey, nor did the DLC for Zelda seem all that substantial. Xenoblade looks okay, and Rocket League coming to Switch is definitely a good thing, but other than that… I’m just not moved.

Now, if it wasn’t obvious. I think Microsoft had the best show.

Literally had something for everyone. It crammed so much in, and gave proper time for really heavy hitting showcases. I personally don’t care about XBox One X (I’m a PC player… sue me) – but everything else showcased by them was solid.

And here’s the funny thing. While watching it, I was thinking that Microsoft was gonna get steam rolled… instead they went first and maintained my interest more so than anyone else when it came to content.

So to Microsoft, Great F****** Job! Don’t slip though. I don’t want anymore Scalebound-like fiascoes!
