CodeSpaces Goes Down due to a Hacker
We at EoZ are saddened to hear about the horrible events that CodeSpaces have been through. It all started after a series of DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks that later became something much worse. After the set of DDoS attacks, the hacker (please keep in mind that “hacker” is an umbrella term in this case, we would classify this individual as a black hat hacker) was able to get into CodeSpaces’ amazon account control panel, which housed customer information, and destroy some serious amounts of data.
It’s apparent that the impact is a devastating one as it happened rather quickly, noted by CodeSpaces’ statement:
CodeSpace
“In summary, most of our data, backups, machine configurations and offsite backups were either partially or completely deleted. This took place over a 12 hour period which I have condensed into this very brief explanation, which I will elaborate on more once we have managed our customers needs.“
“Code Spaces will not be able to operate beyond this point, the cost of resolving this issue to date and the expected cost of refunding customers who have been left without the service they paid for will put Code Spaces in a irreversible position both financially and in terms of on going credibility.“
Followed by:
“On behalf of everyone at Code Spaces, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this has caused to you, and ask for your understanding during this time! We hope that one day we will be able to and reinstate the service and credibility that Code Spaces once had! “
It’s never good to hear about a group of workers generally losing their jobs in 12 hours because of one individual or group, as well as the unrecoverable data of their customers. Regardless, we at EoZ hope that they will be able to take care of their users in the best way possible and once again get back to what they love to do.
